Internet Hunt for Soy Free restaurants eats

Sunday I was poking around on the internet to find a restaurant that was safe for us to go eat at so Julia could eat as well and not sit and stare. Well I went to Subway's site. That was a no go for her unless we gave her just the meat and cheese that went on the sub which we could do at home for her. Checked out Taco Bell, No good on that one either. Almost all of there products have it in it. Then my husband went and said "what about the Chinese place around the corner from us?" I looked at him at just laughed. That is just suicide for Julia to eat at a place like that. Everywhere I turned it looked like we weren't going to be able to eat.
We finally looked at Domino's Pizza. EUREKA!!! We found out that the hand tossed pizza is SAFE. So she got to eat Pizza. So far she hasn't shown any signs of reaction so I think we are in the clear with it. She was so happy that she could eat one of her faves. It has been hard for her to start all over again but she is finding the joys when we discover that certain foods are still doable even with her allergy. We just have to find a way around them. It is possible to eat REAL food that doesn't taste like cardboard with this allergy but you have to be a detective and find what works and what doesn't.

Happy Sleuthing and enjoy your food

I can't eat what anymore?!?!!

This morning I had to have a talk with Julia about her FAVORITE cereal corn pops. I didn't realize that it had Soybean products in it until after I read the label.
I know bad mommy. I should know better than to not read labels this late in the game after 4 years of dealing with it. Hey even those of us that have lived with a member that has a food allergy slips by mistake. Luckily she isn't anaphylactic towards soy.
Well back to what I had to tell her.
Me: Julia sweetie I am sorry but you can't eat corn pops anymore.
Julia: But why mommy? Does it have soy in it??
Me: Yes sweetie I didn't realize it was in there.
Julia: You know you have to read the labels mom!!
Yes I got told off by my 5 yr old daughter on this. Luckily she like Honey Nut Cheerios and she likes them. Though I know I am going to have to find another cereal soon to alternate between them so she doesn't get tired of it.
Next thing that comes out of her mouth is her talking about the time she got hand sanitizer in her eyes saying she didn't like it when that happened and in the most serious face and tone points to her eye and says "IT BURNS!!!" LOL I couldn't stop laughing, Love her to death and her big sister too.

Let's Eat out at Burger King....NOT!!!

OK, I looked at the Burger King info on Soy contents and they DO NOT disclose everything on there allergen chart!!! So if you really want to know what all has Soybean in it you need to read the INGREDIENTS LISTS!! Otherwise little Timmy that is allergic to it and goes to eat the french fries that doesn't have the "S" by it to let you know that it is cooked in SOYBEAN oil or blended oil will be having a fun time in the ER more than likely unless you read all the ingredients used in the making of the food. Morale of this is if you have it or it could be in the food make sure to label it for your consumers correctly and for the consumer "Buyer Beware" and don't trust the "allergen charts". Safest bet is to make sure you read that ingredients listing BEFORE you go out to eat.

Who am I am who is this kid?

This blog is dedicated to my youngest daughter Julia that suffers from a Soybean allergy.
We found out that she was allergic to soybeans when she was 9 mos old and have been trying our best to live a Soybean Free lifestyle in our home. Its not always easy when she wants McDonald's cheeseburgers and you have to tell her no but we manage.
So sit back and see the amazing journey that our family has been on to live a Soy Free Life with a soy free mama.

Troubles and Triumphs of the day

Well we have made a huge success in finding a Soybean free bread that she will actually eat. Kinda had to make her eat it though since she is super picky. Udis White bread in the freezer section ($4.98/loaf) is the one that has been the winner so far. So she is very happy that she can still eat her Peanut Butter and Honey (PBH) sandwiches. We use Peter Pan Peanut Creamy Butter since it is the only one that I have found that is soy free.
Although we did have an epic fail at school today as we went through the breakfast line. Come to find out Froot Loops cereal has Soybean oil in it. It was sad to see this after thinking for several years it was a safe one. I think they must have changed the formula. She ate it and hoping that we don't have a bad reaction like we did to the schools Chocolate milk. That was to only cereal that they had there and all the other food that they serve at her school has Soy in it. She does take her lunch but I am still very scared that she is going to have another attack from it and be out for another 2 days like last week.
Well I went to the store and did some research on her fave cereals come to find out she is REALLY gonna hate me since she cant have Corn Pops, Froot Loops, or any chocolate cereals any more. Did find out that at least one of her faves is still on the safe list Honey Nut Cheerios !!! Love me some HN Cherrios :)
I have found that pretty much any of the store brand stuff I can't buy due to it having some type of Soybean product in it  (oil/ lecithin/ flour).
There are many things that I have found out over the years and one of them is make sure that you read ALL the labels and keep on the doctors about your child's allergies even if the allergy test is coming back clean and they are still having a reaction to it. More to come on that one.

If you are wanting more information on the Udis bread that Julia likes check them out they have a lot of other products from looking at their website.

Hope you have a wonderfully Soy Free Day and that we can share kid friendly recipes and products that are safe to eat. <3 Soy Free Mama
